AS ROSEMARY Haines and her husband sat beside their son's hospital bed, they knew he was going to die.
Their son Phillip was tragically run over by a truck while he was riding to school in December 2001.
He died after being unconscious for three days in intensive care.
The Haines family made the selfless decision to donate Phillip's organs and 12 years on, some of the recipients are still alive.
"I have always tried to look for the silver lining in any situation and although there wasn't much in that situation, we were able to help people have a better quality of life and that really is wonderful," Mrs Haines said.
"We write to each other every Christmas and for me, I find it helpful that it has changed other people's lives after transplants."
