This 'Floragraph,' which will be carried on a float in the Rose Parade today, depicts Leslie McLendon, a former Opelousas resident and organ donor who died in December 2012. / Submitted photo
McLendon died too soon, but left a legacy for others. Today, the niece of Opelousas Police Capt. Martin McLendon will be one of three organ donors who are to be honored on the Donate Life America float in the annual parade.
McLendon’s story began April 1, 1965, when she was born an April Fool’s baby. She died Dec. 18, 2012, but the story never has really ended.
“Our father was in the Air Force, and we lived all over,” said Leslie McLendon’s sister, Ursula. “We lived in Opelousas for a while, then in England and, later, in Omaha, Neb.”
