For several precious hours Saturday night and early Sunday, Amy Lanning Becerra and her family were elated. After all, a miracle was en route.
Or so they thought.
Becerra, a 1997 Barrington High School graduate, is one of more than 3,000 people on the waiting list for a heart transplant in the United States. A patient in Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago since September, and on the 1A priority list since Nov. 4, she received word Saturday that a match had been found.
“We were both crying and happy,” said Ed Becerra, Amy’s husband of two years. “We had a match. But they kept saying, ‘weather permitting, weather permitting.’
