LAS VEGAS - Vladimir Ristich feels very fortunate to be able to pursue his dream of becoming a physician's assistant in Las Vegas. It's a passion he says developed during his many years under the care of several doctors.
"My story begins right when I was born," he said.
Ristich was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. Twelve years later, a doctor informed his family he would need a kidney transplant.
"As soon as my brother, me and my mom left the hospital, The three of us broke down crying," he said.
His family went through tissue-typing and testing to find the right donor. His father was the best match. Ristich and his father underwent the procedure, and the kidney transplant surgery was a success.
"The kidney immediately started producing urine, which is an excellent sign," Ristich said.
