Malaikye, who died in 2011 in a suspected homicide, saved the lives of four others after his father consented to an organ donation, according to grandmother and Donate life ambassador Rachel Rodriguez.
“He was able to save four people,” Rodriguez said. “He saved a 9-month-old little girl, a 2-year-old girl, a 21-year-old woman and a 65-year-old woman with his organs.”
Selected guests dedicated one of thousands of roses on the Donate Life float’s Dedication Garden, according to Donate Life’s website. Each goes in a vial containing a personal message.
“For me, the reason why it was so important for me to be an ambassador was to continue to share his story,” Rodriguez said. “If I share our story of hope with other families, then I have honored my grandson’s life.”
