Catherine 'Cat' Healy lives on through organ donation
State police said "Cat" Healy, of Acme, died on Sunday. She was the passenger in a pickup truck when the vehicle went out of control and hit a guide rail and a tree in Fayette County.
"We made the decision about the organ donations pretty quick," said Cat's dad, George Appel.
Cat was kept on life support for a day and a half, though legally declared brain-dead, according to her parents. For more than 24 hours, the family prepared to say goodbye, while the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) prepared five recipients of Cat’s organs.
