I never really put much thought into it until I found out that my neighbor, Megan, had started a Donate Life club at Wilson High School.
Megan's grandfather, Joe Darga, had a heart transplant, and her family is so appreciative of the gift of life that he was given, and so is he. He is very active in the Donate Life community as an ambassador, helping to educate people, making them more aware about the facts of organ and tissue donation and how it makes such a big difference in saving people's lives.
With my heightened awareness of the possibilities of medical care in my life and also of all the serious illnesses I have seen in many people around me, I was compelled to start a Donate Life club at my school, Long Beach Poly, with my friends. I chartered the club at the beginning of this school year along with fellow students Carol Wersbe (vice president), Lane Trachy (treasurer) and Sydney Cooper (secretary).
