
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A new year is giving one Virginia Beach family a new opportunity. They're turning the pain of losing their teenage son into a promising chance at a healthy life for those in need of vital organs.
On Friday, WAVY.com sat down with Josh Weiner's parents and the Rabbi who's been by their side.
“Knowing how many lives he touched, I guess he was just so good at it that he earned his wings too quickly,” said Scott Weiner. “He just had so much to do. He was such a talent in all areas.”
Josh was a talented 15-year-old, battling Type 1 Diabetes. He began having complications with the disease in December, right around the time he finally got his learner's permit to drive. His body wasn’t absorbing the insulin that his pump was delivering, and very quickly one missed day from school turned into more.
