ELGIN — It’s the little things that many people take for granted — and for Pete Giannaris of Elgin, 2013 will be the year he got to go to the bathroom again, the way most people do.
In late August, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Giannaris underwent his fourth kidney transplant — this one from an anonymous donor — after living for 12 years on dialysis, getting the four-hour treatment three times a week.
Since late October, he’s been back home in the Century Oaks subdivision.
“I went back up to Mayo just before Thanksgiving for a checkup. Everything came back normal. There were no signs of rejection, and my numbers were good,” Giannaris said.
