Theresa Welsh, of Haddonfield, N.J., made the decision to help a stranger — sparking a chain of giving the ended two months later at the same hospital where it began in Philadelphia.

A selfless New Jersey woman's kidney donation has resulted in five strangers getting transplants they vitally needed.
Theresa Welsh, of Haddonfield, donated her kidney to a man in New Hampshire on Oct. 25 — and what followed over the next two months was a kidney-donation chain, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Welsh's kidney was given to a man in New Hampshire, who declined to be interviewed by The Inquirer, but said his partner — who wanted to donate to him but was incompatible — instead donated his kidney to a man in Ohio.
