
TORRINGTON—A local 10-year-old was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in April 2013. Fast forward eight months and Torrington fifth grader Samantha Hall is in stage five organ failure, in need of a new kidney.
According to Darlene Cormier, a friend of the family, Samantha hadn’t been sick until March.
“In March she got sick. Danny [her father] brought her to the hospital. They originally thought it was her appendix so they sent her to Children’s [Medical Center in Hartford]. Testing showed that it wasn’t her appendix,” explained Cormier. “It wasn’t until a little later they diagnosed her with kidney disease.”
Ms. Cormier said when the Hall family initially found out that Samantha was sick, they were told that she could live for a while without losing kidney function. However, her kidney function has gone from 70 percent down to 8 percent since the summer.
