After years of serving her community, Former Ulysses Town Justice Christine Springer, who died in 2007, will donate her story to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation on January 1, at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif. A floragraph, an image made of flowers, in honor of Justice Springer will be on the national Donate Life float along with granddaughter Ali Brown and daughter Moly deRoos.
“Each New Year, Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network is honored to play a small part in the Rose Parade and the opportunity to spread the message about donation to such a large audience,” said FLDRN Executive Director Rob Kochik. “The Donate Life float helps to further raise awareness about organ and tissue donation and honors those who have so generously given the gift of life.”
At a celebration of this honor for Springer on December 20, deRoos explained her family’s choice to honor her mother. At 11 years old, Ali Brown received a liver transplant from her grandmother Springer.
“After her surgery the one thing she said to me was, Mom, is this what life is like without itching all of the time?” said deRoos.
