David Emerson is alive today because someone chose to become an organ and tissue donor.
In his case, it was a 38-year-old man from Ohio, who died in an automobile accident. In death, he was able to supply, among other things, a healthy kidney - an organ that Emerson, now 58, has been able to use for 11 years.
“I really would like to meet his family someday, because I would like to let them know where I was at,” Emerson said Monday, one day after his 11th anniversary of receiving the kidney, helping end a two-year stint on dialysis, which has left him with scars on most of his left arm. “I corresponded with the family one time; I wrote a letter, and I found out that the man was killed by a drunk driver from Louisville.
