Westby residents, Bruce Von Ruden and Lori Hemmersbach, are so much more than long time friends.
Since Aug. 15, 2013, they are forever connected by Lori’s selfless donation of a kidney to Bruce, a man whose hair she cut as a little boy, a man she has thought of as family for years and a man she is still proud to call her friend today.
When Lori learned that Bruce needed a kidney transplant, she never hesitated a second, just asked how she could help. With no blood ties to each other, Lori never dreamed in a million years she would be a perfect match when she was tested. She learned a short time later she was as close to perfect as it gets when it comes to organ donation matches, giving Bruce his needle in the haystack miracle right in his own backyard.
