Jamie Johnson drove her only son, Jacob Burrell, to obtain his driving permit. The form had one simple question that sparked a conversation that in turn impacted the lives of many.
“The form asked Jacob if he wanted to be an organ donor and he said ‘Yes, I would love to help someone if I could,’” Jamie said. “I would have never thought that question would mean anything until later.”
Jamie faced the tough choice of whether to donate her only son’s organs after doctors decided he wouldn’t recover from a traumatic brain injury.
Now, two years later, Jamie is furthering her medical career at the University by becoming a family nurse practitioner and is an active advocate for organ donation.
