Under the vaulted plaster ceiling of a Dance Complex rehearsal studio, in an intimate gathering with close friends, Cambridge resident Marinda Righter danced alone.
With The Grass Roots’ “Let’s Live for Today” strumming behind her and a sunflower in her hair, Righter’s rhythmic tribute celebrated her mother, Cheryl Righter, who died earlier this year from a stroke and became one of a handful of face transplant donors in the world. Cheryl Righter’s face will be depicted in a floragraph portrait that will appear in the 125th Rose Parade on New Year’s Day, and Marinda Righter wanted to celebrate with song and dance.
By the time The Guess Who’s “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature” came on, Marinda Righter’s circle of friends turned away from decorating a picture frame and joined her one by one on the dance floor. Marinda Righter gave everyone a round of bear hugs before putting the finishing touches on the portrait of her mother that will hang on the Donate Life float – a float that will honor organ and tissue donors.
