DUDLEY — There is a saying that Kelly A. Johnson has come to live by: "Life isn't measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
Breathing is a struggle for the 31-year-old former EMT/paramedic, who has cystic fibrosis, as she waits for a double lung transplant.
Ms. Johnson is sixth on the regional waiting list, and No. 2 on the transplant list at Massachusetts General Hospital. While she waits, her family and friends have mobilized with the help of the Children's Organ Transplant Association, a nationwide nonprofit organization, to raise the estimated $50,000 to $75,000 that will be needed for expenses not covered by insurance.
