Organ donation is a selfless act that truly saves another person’s life.
It is an act that doesn’t require fundraising, yet is vital for a person’s survival. Those who need an organ donation have no way to inform the community that they need support. It isn’t like cancer, where fundraisers collect money to help pay for treatment.
For individuals waiting for a kidney donor, such as Terri Martin of Gering, “this is the gift of life and you are giving someone their life.”
Martin has polycystic kidney disease, which has accelerated to the point of needing a transplant.
An organ donor has to wait on the generosity of others, often strangers, to help them. They can feel alone and helpless as they patiently wait on a list for a donor match.
