
GRAHAM COUNTY — The harvesting of organs and tissues from a possible homicide victim shouldn’t play a factor in the autopsy or ongoing investigation.
That’s the word from the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office in Tucson.
“We’ve never really had organ or tissue donation be a barrier for us in any of our cases,” said Chief Pima County Medical Examiner Dr. Gregory Hess. “If you're going to take the heart for valves and some of the surrounding tissues for transplant, we make sure that gets examined either by us or by a professional who does this for a living.”
Joseph Duane Dale Blan, 20, was declared deceased in the early morning hours of Dec. 1 after an evening of alleged drinking, drugging and an altercation with his brother, David Dylan Blan, 21. Due to the nature of his death, Graham County’s local medical examiner, Dr. Robert Coons, requested an autopsy be performed by the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office in Tucson.
