More than 120,000 individuals are on the national waiting list for an organ transplant, reports Randa Lipman, manager of community outreach for the Mid-South Transplant Foundation Inc. in Memphis.
“Sadly,” she said, “18 people will die every day waiting.”
This Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m., Elton Butler and Darnell Williams II Endowment will present an Organ Donor Awareness Program for the Darnell Williams II Endowment Fund. The event will be held in the dining room of the Marvell-Elaine High School.
A tragic automobile accident cut short the life of 17-year-old Darnell Williams. Those who knew and loved the young man described him as having integrity and embracing a compassion for all people. When approached about organ donation, Darnell's family knew that he would have wanted to donate his organs because he received so much joy from helping others. In death, his gifts saved the lives of three people.
