
The four-year-old from Cardiff has undergone two liver transplants and heart surgery among more than 60 operations
Little Ava Raffour should make anyone stop and think about organ donation – she has undergone more than 60 operations by the age of four.
And it’s her heart-wrenching tale, which has had a happy ending, that launched the Welsh Government’s two-year countdown to the new soft opt-out legislation which comes into effect in Wales on December 1, 2015.
The four-year-old was born with a rare disease called biliary atresia, which blocked the bile duct in her liver, and her family were desperate to find a transplant donor to save her life.
Before her first birthday Ava, who lives in St Mellons, Cardiff with mum Laura, dad Nathan and little sister Annabella, had undergone heart surgery and two liver transplants.
