NEWMAN – Bryan Schaefer recently received the miracle for which his family had been praying – a new kidney, donated by a local woman who moved to action after reading a newspaper account of his plight earlier this year.
Little more than a year after surviving life-threatening complications from kidney disease, the 20-year old Newman man received a kidney donated by fellow Newman resident Julie Brazil. The transplant took place Oct. 24 at the UCSF Medical Center.
After the critical episode of a year ago, said Schaefer’s mother Tiffani Wyley-Schaefer, it became evident that her son would need a transplant.
“It takes a selfless soul to give such a wonderful gift to somebody,” said Wyley-Schaefer. “On Oct. 15 of last year he almost died. We were going to bed and praying every night. God has blessed us with a beautiful person to do this.”
