IT'S the Christmas wish that could save Kerri Cargill's life: a double lung and heart transplant.
Last year, Ms Cargill, a 44-year-old registered nurse, was told she had just 12 to 18 months to live. That was 17 months ago.
"As time goes by, you get so desperate. I wasn't supposed to see this Christmas but the reality is once you are on the transplant waiting list, you have less than two years to live," she said. "The wait gets harder as time goes.
``Two months ago at a hospital visit one of the nurses said she was watching me go down the gurgler."
Born with a hole in her heart, Ms Cargill now suffers pulmonary hypertension. She lives moment by moment, treading a fine line between being well enough to get through a transplant or being too sick to get her body through the ordeal.
