People interested in giving blood, or registering as an organ, eye, tissue or bone marrow donor can attend the University of Michigan’s annual Be a Hero at the Big House event on Sunday.
In its third year, the free donor drive draws hundreds of people to the Jack Roth Stadium Club in the Big House, where people can also tour the club-level seating area.
This year’s event will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17.
“Signing up on the donor registry, giving blood or being screened for bone marrow donation is a simple thing to do, but it truly can save someone’s life,” said Jeffrey Punch, M.D., director of transplantation at the University of Michigan’s Transplant Center, in a statement.
Punch said about 119,000 people are waiting for organ transplants in the U.S. — a few thousand more than the number of people who fill Michigan Stadium for a football game.
