Donated hearts often take some massaging to get the right beat. But the one implanted into Martha LeFebvre's chest in 2011 took right away.
Her doctor called it "the perfect heart" -- an apt description shared by those who knew the donor well.
"This is absolutely something Talia wanted to do," said Richard Agler, whose daughter Talia died after being struck by a car in January 2012 while jogging on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. She was just 26 years old.
To honor Talia, Agler, a "semi-retired" Boca Raton rabbi who now lives in Key Largo, and Rev. Pam Feeser, manager of the Community Health Ministries in the Upper Keys, are challenging the local community to live by her example and become organ donors. Talia was an outspoken proponent of organ donation.
