When Leanne McDougall was born, her parents were told that she would die before she started grade school.
This remarkable woman defied the doctors and lived with her faulty heart for 36 years. Then, during one of her surgeries to repair a heart valve, doctors discovered she would need a new heart to survive, and her name was put on a list for a transplant. And a few days later, on June 3, 1989, it happened!
She received her new heart from a young male adult who had died a day earlier following a traffic accident. This remarkable woman died on Oct. 20 at age 61.
Leanne was a deeply religious person. She attended mass regularly. She prayed daily and especially so for that 32-year-old man — a husband and a father — who in death gave her the Gift of Life.
